Choosing the height of the window

An important aspect of choosing and fitting a roof window is ensuring that the window is placed at the correct height for the occupants.

It should be stated that there is no one single "correct" height - the window should be placed for the convenience and functionality of the users, and this can vary according to the conditions. A general rule however is that the lower the pitch of the roof, the longer the window should be.

In this graphic we see illustrated how a steeper pitched roof requires a shorter roof window than the shallow pitched roof.

Roof pitch : x=15 .. 90 degrees

Choosing the position of the window

Because the roof window has a centre-pivot hinge and a handle at the base of the window you should ensure the window is placed at a comfortable height for opening, typically between 90 -130cm from the floor level.
