Safety Considerations

Scaffolding is not normally considered necessary in the installation of roof windows, as the work can be completed from within the roof structure. It is important though that the installer should satisfy themselves that all safety implications are considered.

In particular there is danger below the installation in respect of objects which may be dropped from the roof (e.g. hammer, tiles etc). Our recommendation is that any area at risk should be sectioned off to minimise the risk.

When cutting through any materials in the roof (e.g. Gypsum board) or when cutting tiles we recommend that safety masks and goggles should be worn.

We also recommend that temporary support battens be used whilst placing the window frame and that loose objects should never be left resting on the external face of the roof.
